Default 2002 Hyundai Accent GSI Overdrive/Transmission Problem

Hey everyone im new to these forums and I am looking for some help with a problem i have been having with my accent. The car has 180,000 kms on it. The problem is that when I am driving with overdrive on, as soon as i hit 50 km/h, all the engine will do is rev. I cannot go over 50 km/h for some strange reason when overdrive is on. However, when overdrive is off, the car runs fine. The only problem i have with driving with overdrive off is that i can barely get 280 km a tank. I am not sure whether this is a problem with the solenoids or an electrical problem with the overdrive button wiring in the shifter. Also, when i shift from park to reverse, park to drive, reverse to drive, or drive to reverse, the car jumps a lot. It does not shift smoothly. The check engine light is on, but i have never gotten a reading done. I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me figure out what the problem is.

Is there anything i can do to determine whether its a transmission problem or a problem with the wires in the shifter without having to get a mechanic to look at my car?

i talked to a local mechanic, and he said at least $600. Which is why i want to find out if its a problem with the wires in the shifter rather than a transmission problem

Alright guys i got an OBD reading FINALLY done. The code was P0734 which translates to 4th Gear incorrect ratio. Any help would be appreciated please. I find it very strange that the car shifts fine when overdrive is turned off.
