Default Hyundai Accent 1.5L LC from 2000 misfires

Hi,

I have a Hyundai Accent 1.5L 12v from 2000, and lately it has been misfiring a lot. I have read out the error codes, and it indicates a misfire on cylinder #3.
Then I tested the spark plugs and spark plug wires, and I found that the spark plugs were fine, which I expected because I changed them about 10,000 km. ago. I have replaced the spark plug wires, and I have tested them with a device that blinks when a spark is made in the cylinder. And I found that cylinder #3 and #4 weren't sparking at a uniform way, sometimes they would stop sparking for 3-4 seconds. Then I replaced the coil packs, but it's misfiring, and I'm running out of ideas.

I hope You maybe have some ideas for what could be wrong!

P.S.

Sorry any bad spelling, I'm from Denmark, so English is not my best! BTW the car have clocked 230000 km.

3 or 4 seconds seems like one heck of a misfire to me. 2 cylinders out for that long should stall the engine. Anyhow, try gaping the plugs to about .030 and see if that helps. I know that decreasing the gap on my 99 Accent helped a lot. Also, try the NKG Platinum plugs. They have a small diameter center electrode.

Bigger spots of rust treated with Rustolium Rust reformer.
Pulled the 2 rubber plugs from the bottom of the trunk to let the water out. I think that I might just have a fender rust problem.

That's not a big gab, but a easy thing to try. I've heard that it might would help to add some cleaning fluid, that cleans the fuel system, fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel injectors. How about the Crank shaft position sensor, can it affect anything?

I dont know if you already solved this but it sounds as if you had a bad crank position sensor. Could also be a bad ECU, something similar happened to me on a 2003 accent and it turned out to be the ECU. Good luck!
