Default 2002 Hyundai's best sales year ever

From an article on CanadianDriver.com:

Hyundai Auto Canada finished 2002 with its best year in over 16 years. Total sales for 2002 reached 66,917 units, up 13.1% over 2001. The Accent, Elantra, Tiburon and Santa Fe posted record highs with sales of 26,538, 18,290, 4,828 and 8,688 units respectively. Hyundai Auto Canada's sales have more than tripled since 1997.

Hyundai's 2002 sales total topped that of Nissan/Infiniti, Volkswagen and Subaru.

I am surprised to see that so few bought the Tib compared to the other models.

I was thinking the same thing! not that the other models aren't nice, but with the new styles and engines in the tibs, I certainly would have went for one!

No way...it makes complete sense, think of it this way with fuel prices increasing more people will want the accent for commuting to work. Then you got families finding about hyundai more so they want a decent family car that's roomy and nice and gives decent mpg. So then they go for the 4 door elantra, rather then the 2 door tib because the tib is a sports car, plus its hard to get a family in and out of 2 doors Since the family market and the economy market are bigger thats why their sales are higher there. Luxary calls like the XG sell less simply because of the price usually.

The tibs didn't have a 2002 year that I'm aware of, so people out looking to purchase a new car in the 2002 year would look for a 2002 car, which may be the reason not many were sold. And after reading about the Tiburon being Canada's most stolen car 3 years running, that could have sent sales down a bit as well.

It doesnt matter what car outsold more. Its still a got a hyundai logo slapped on it, which means were getting more & more cars out on the road which is great. The more we see the better it means, id rather see a ton than a few.

Except that I like the fact that people don't know what type of car I drive until I show them. I say Hyundai Tiburon and they're like...what? Then they see it and like it. Bong! If Tibs were as popular as Integras, I probably would have gotten an 86 300ZX. I love the stock side skirts on that car.
