Default Remote Keypad

I just bought a Sonata, and the remote keypad does not work. The dealership wants to charge $45 to reprogram, but figured I would just ask here to see what others had to say.
Thanks
Philip

If you bought a new Sonata then you should have received 2 working remotes. If either doesn't work (or if you only received 1 remote) then go back and tell them to fix it. There shouldn't be any fee for this.

Wish it was new, but I bought a 00' model, and only got one non-working remote. Just wondering if there was any way to do this yourself?
Thanks
Philip

they gave you a non-working remote? did they tell you?

most remotes take a matter of seconds to reprogram

my alarm remote literally took 10 seconds at A&B Sound... they just had to press a button... hold another button, then press another three times in a row or somethign like that

go back there, and ask them how they would reprogram it

play dumb, see if they try to BS you :

Okay that didn't work. Well it says you must take out the center fascia. Then look for the transmitter box. When you have found it:

To store new codes:
· Activate the keyless entry/receiver unit and change code savin switch of the receiver unit from "OFF" to "SET".
· The secret codes from the transmitter will be stored into the receiver unit when the door lock button or unlock button is pressed on the transmitter.
· Save the 2nd transmitter codes in the same manner.

when done set the receiever to the off position and install the center fascia again. Look around on HMAservice.com if you can't understand. But these are the directions from the site.

I'd call foul on that. They never should have sold you a non-functional remote. Are you sure that the battery just isn't dead?

I bought the car used, and was told of the problem before buying the car, so I was fully aware of the problem before the purchase but I felt it was still a good buy at the price I bought the car.

tranceokido,
Thanks for the good info, you wouldn't happen to know what the "center fascia" is?

I called a couple dealers and they told me the only way to do it is to bring it in. I also emailed the guys at www.hyundaiusa.com getting a respons saying I also had to bring it into the dealer. But I know other cars can be done in an easy mannor.

Thanks everyone for your help
Philip

I'm guessing you were talking about the center dash thingy where the radio, and ac knobs are?
I've been spending the last hour trying to remove it, first I got the plate by my shifter off, then removed the two screws by the 12v power supply but this is far as I could get. Do I just need to pull harder? I'm starting to think the $45 is not all that bad of a deal aterwards
