Default Auto Air Filters

Here is my concern, I have done lots of research on this topic and still its unclear to me the answer to this question. Its no secret to me that performance air filters such as K&N allow more air flow allowing your car to get better gas mileage and performance. My question is however, are you allowing more airbourne particles or even larger particles in to your engine thus causing additional engine wear? I am unsure. Do the throw away paper filters filter better, protecting your engine longer? If the answer is yes to both does anyone have recommendations on the best air filter to use for my vehicle? I am more concerned about protecting my car than perfprmance.

I have a K&N air filter in my 2002 Sonata and I'm very happy with
it. I would recommend these filters to anyone.

You must be more concerned with Performance if you are using an K&N than you are protecting your engine for the long hall. I'd like to get 200,000 miles plus out of this engine and do not believe that it is possible with an K&N. Many tests on the net will show this to be true. K&Ns allow more particles to enter the engine than paper air filters. This is why I am wondering what anyone knows about what filter they recommend for use for filtration. K&Ns will not give me the filtration I am looking for.

When you're talking about a k&N Filter..you're talking about the conical filter's on Cold air intake's
Basically The Material on a K&N Filter and most CAI Cone Filter's is a Cotton Gauze Layer sandwiched by 2 metal mesh cover's

I think that the oil soaked on the filter is what catch's the dust,
it may not catch 100% of the dust but i's pretty close,
