Default Hyundai F1

Some guy posted this on a zcar forum..

"this may not pertain to anything at all, but I have a little story about hyundai. On a flight back to the U.S. from austria, I happened to sit next to an automotive engineer that had been in Germany working on a Hyundai engine. He told me that it was consortium of companies. It was Hyundai, a German company, and an American company this guy worked for. He said it was all hush-hush, and they wouldn't even let him see the complete engine designs, but he said they were working on a 500+ horsepower engine that would be for hyundai. He was working specifically on the intake. He said he was guessing this was for racing, but can you imagine the craziness that would ensue if hyundai released a supercar at their usual bargain prices? their brand would definitely get a boost from any sort of racing. The only thing they're missing is street credibility. I thought he was making it up, but he swore up and down he was telling the truth.
anybody else heard anything about this?"

I heard that Hyundai was thinking of going into the Formula 1 racing league.... I guess they are in fact in...if this guy's(the engineer) story is correct...

Formula 1 engines make more power than that. Might be for a touring car. I'd love to see an Elantra in British Touring.

Sounds like things are starting to heat up like the news over here has it...the engine you mentioned is propably being built for BTCC or an American series...there is no way such an engine could win in the JGTC(All-Japan Grand Touring Championships)where 2-litre 4cyls spit out over 700Bhp at just 1 bar of boost! This is the next stage I beleive, the part we have all been waiting for, when Hyundai will enter the performance market seriously! Let us hope they release a serious contender for public consumption...

Power without the skill to control it is a dangerous thing...

well, they're already into F3 racing. Hopefully F1 is only a few (2-5) years away.
