Harrasing me again huh? I must be growing on you
Why is it garbage? Oh I guesss because stock it only makes 170 Hp and 230 Ft lbs.
Let me break it down for you, then, if you're "just a girl trying to be a tuner"
Im concentrating my efforts on torque, I don't care for HP. HP is overrated. Why would I want to wait for 7K rpm to make HP when, with this engine, I can make peak torque at 2200 RPM? Why the hell would I want to wait? The modifications this engine will recieve (I have most ot the parts allready, just need to put the damn thing together again) include:
-Edelbrock dual pane manifold (portmatched)
-Holley/Carter 650 CFM 4bbl carb (manual choke, naturally) with 2 inch stack
-Ported heads, perhaps if I save up $800 ill get 23 degree aluminum ported ones
-Headers
-lightened flywheel
-recurved distributor, using ACCEL 4 Prong module
-296 0.5" cam
-Mechanical rollers
-1.6 ratio lifters
Ill be using a 5spd T5 tranny from a mustang and an 8.8 inch LSD rearend (also mustang) with approx 3.8-4.1 final.
In theory, that should increase the HP to 200, and the torque to approx 315 ft lbs. Combine that with low gearing in a 2350 pound pony, and youve got a 13 second RWD car on your hands. I could always put a small 75 shot on it if I want more power...
You are right about the heads... they flow GARBAGE. And they're cast iron, so they weigh about 50 pounds a peice. Other than that, the LB1 is a very stout, reliable, and cheap engine. Speaking of cheap, I bought the motor for $200 and im probably only gonna put $1,200 into it, maybe $1,500 if I want to re-inforce the mains.
Here, educate yourself on American engines before again you speak:
