3.8? - Hyundai Performance Forums

I had a question that really has me stumped. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere on the net. Is the new mitsubishi eclipse using a 3.8L lambda motor with mitsu head? A buddy of mine that loves to memorize car facts told me it had to be so because mitsubishi has never produced a 3.8L motor. I knew that both mitsubishi and chrysler was supposed to be using these engines, but I can't get a straight answer out of anyone on whether mitsubishi is or not.

Well, isn't that irrelevant...

Mitsubishi makes a 3.8l. it is in the Endeavor and Pajero at least. I don't know about whether the engine in the Eclipse is a Lambda or not.

not to be a prick but this is in the "all things hyundai" thread. shouldn't this be in "off topic" ?? seeing as mitzu doesn't make engines for hyundais anymore..

i would figure that its in here because apparently no one knows for certain if the new eclipse is sporting a hyundai 3.8 or not. if it is then our aftermarket support for the 3.8 just went through the roof.

oh and as to your mitsu not making engines for hyundai anymore, that may be true but they did just work with hyundai and diamer to make the world engine. so any vehicle of theirs with potentially one of the same engines in ours merits discussion in the hyundai forum, no?

It kind of makes sense, but I don't think it's a Lambda.

I've read a lot about this kind of thing and nothing even suggests that they'd be using the Lambda, only the "world engine" that all three companies are "sharing."

they are using a 3.8L... that i know for sure... but are you guys saying this motor is a hyundai motor??? im confused

That's the question. Is the Eclipse sporting the Hyundai designed Lambda 3.8l V-6 or did Mitsubishi use their own V-6. I assume they used their own V-6, but I could be wrong.

thats possible but...what would be the point of joining in with two other car companies to make a series of brand new top of the line awesome engines and then not put said engines into their newest prettiest fastest car?

ill be confused myself, if i find out its not the one of the world engines
