Default New Immigrant planning to buy a Hyundai Accent, GL or GS need some info?

Hi,

I am a new immigrant to Canada need to buy a reasonably priced car $5-7000, which should be able to withstand the winter and be safe for my family. Earlier Hyundai Accent didnt make much of a impression, but looking at this forum it seems its live and kicking

Whether an Accent GS or GL (whats the difference) or should go for the next level in Hyundai - Elantra, please advise?

All suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Sayvari

Get a Honda Civic or other Honda if you planning to modify your car with lil $$$. You can find any parts (aftermarket) for hondas at any Crappy tires or even at Walmart::

or if you wanna look different from the rest, get a Hyundai!!

Hi! Where are from originally? Where do you live now? How long have you been here? Welcome to Canada, hope you like it here.

As for the Accent. It is really a decent car and the price is unbeatable. Hyundais seem to withstand winters quite well. How big is your family? If you have more than 1 child, you would probably prefer the 4 door accent. If your children are older, the Elantra is far more spacious.

If you have babies and need infant seats, there is no where near enough room in the Accent for infant seats.

The Elantra might last you longer if you have kids, just for the space.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies, I am from India and its nearly a year since I came in this country(Toronto). Now since my family (I have one kid) has joined me it makes sense to invest in a car and I want something which takes me from one point to the other nothing fancy and light on the budget. I read a lot of reviews on the internet buying a Hyundai makes sense, but I am poor at inspecting a car as I have no technical knowledge plus very few friends who can help or help me judge the roadworthiness of the car.

So I am just going to pick up something(Accent GL or GS) preferably a 4 door based upon the year and mileage and other features as indicated in the various reviews I read. I could'nt makeout anything of whats under the hood of the car.

All suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Sayvari

Sayvari,

Here is a link to the specifications for the different Accent models:

http://www.hyundaicanada.com/eng/showroom/sh_accent_specs.html?code=accent&name=6

Here is the general Accent page from www.hyundaicanada.com :
http://www.hyundaicanada.com/eng/showroom/sh_accent_main.html?code=accent

If you life in Greater Toronto, I suggest getting in touch with Oakville Hyundai. Graham (who works there) is a moderator on these forums. His nickname here is "Cottonmouth."

After reading the specifications page, post any questions you may have back here and I will try to help you in any way possible.

Cheers!

Terre

Hi!

Thanks for the links, I checked it out. But I am looking for USED Hyundai somewhere from 1998 onwards. My budget is around $5000(Canadian). Is the CARFAX service available for checking Canadian cars too?

Thanks again for the info.

I have a silver 1998 GS 3 door Automatic with A/C, and CD coming in today on trade. The owners are a nice old Italian couple and it looks like they have taken very good care of the car. It has 97,200 km on it and the body looks in great shape. They actually put blankets on the seats to keep them clean. We will probably be asking around $5000 for it. We have a few other cars to pick from too. But I like this one in particular since it has low milage and is very well equipped.

I'll take a pic and post it here for you when it gets here.

Hi!

Thanks for the being so prompt and the pic's, they look good ( A picture of whats under the hood would help). But I am not in a rush I may opt for an Elantra also since my family size is going to increase soon, I have to consider this also. Do you provide any warranties?

If you want to spend under $5000 it would be hard to find a decent Elantra. I am home right now but I will check the lot for something suitable for you.

The warranty that the dealership offers on used cars is a 30 day 50/50 powertrain. But if you choose a recent model you will get the ballance of the existing factory warranty. If there is no factory warranty left you can purchase an extended plan to suit your needs.

I'll post some more options for you when I get to work tomorrow. If you see anything that you like I can take pics for you.:
