The Conservative goverment is looking to Tackle Crime. While I support them fully with this and the changes they want to do, there is one I don't agree with.
Creat a Criminal offence for street racing, a crime that all too often kills.
Now to first put somethign to rest, I fully do not support street racing, but lets get real creating a criminal offence will destroy a lot of people lives. I believe that the current fines that can be laid on an individual for street racing are enough that usually they need to sell there car or not drive it for a few months. not to mention how high there insurance will go. I think of instead of creating a criminal offense for this they should look at making it easier for group/clubs/orgaizations to put on timed course races. Presently it's very hard and (pain in the ass) ordeal to have one. Not to mention having a hard time to get a city/ towns support. You'ld think getting the racing off the street woudl be enough to get the cities support for such events. So get your email up and running email freinds, clubs, stores, and get them to email their Conservative MP to not make street racing a criminal offense. Instead expresss the desire for support of organized time racing.
All of these laws apply and they have yet to change anything. So how is a law agaisnt "Street Racing" going to have more of an effect than any of these? Obviously if its a problem and the above charges are not going to deter people from racing, then how is a NEW law that does the exact same thing going to change anything?
The problem is that in the GTA things used to be done with some concern for the public. Roads were scoped out in industrial areas, people made sure that there was no traffic, the would get in a couple of runs, then disappear. But once the police started to crackdown on it, everyone is trying to get their fix whenever they can. I'm not saying that what they were doing is write....but at least at that point in time it was a somewhat controlled environment where people actually looked out for public safety.
The police have thrown a rock into a quiet hornets nest, and now its spread to the point where innocent people are dying. If things had of been left alone, and a blind eye turned towards these industrial areas...then the problem thats out there today wouldn't exist.
How many people die every year because of street racing? Anyone know the number? And how many people die because old people cant drive, people eating in their car, putting on make up, talking on their cell phone? I bet each one of those cases has more deaths per year then street racing.

That too. Last night when my friend was giving me a ride home we were stopped at a red light. Then we saw a police car approaching from the other side infront of us. He slowed down to maybe 30kmh and just went through the red light. No sirens, no lights, he didnt look like he was in a hurry.
