Hey guys, now that it has been mentioned, what is the break in period for this car? a dumbass ( you can always tell who is a dumbass and who isnt just by the first sentence that they utter, usually) at the dealership told me 3,000mi but isnt the usual procedure to drive easy for 500 miles, change the oil and go?
The dealer told me that the break in period was about 1200 miles, but I waited untill it was at 2000 just to be sure. The car runs great but the gas mileage isn't as good as I thought it would be. I didn't change my oil untill 3000 miles which was this pass Wedesday
Well the owners manual says 1500. I did the same, but I believe it may be a little longer. My gas mileage sucks and the dealer says it is because it still needs to break in. I have 3900 miles now and I'm getting between 17-29 MPG... I drive very conservative, and if I drive hard I get below 17 MPG... I'm starting to get worried... Other than that my baby treats me well, just as I do to her....*yes my GT is a girl I looked*

Don't listen to the dealer. My car is definitely pass the break-in period (over 27K miles), and I do about 40/60 (highway/city) driving, yet I only get 25 mpg AT BEST!!
I have my 03 GT for a week and passed 1K miles today. I'm averaging 29 mpg on the highway. The trip computer says 28.7 mpg... close enough. The only problem I had was the rear sway bar was too small... 15 mm, so I got 03 TIB GT bar, which is 19.2 mm. Now I have trouble staying under 65 mph to get descent gas mileage...
I have 48,000 miles on my GT, no major problems except it IS a ding magnet. The brakes wore out pretty quick but that might be me. My fuel mileage is ok it was about 30 mpg until I put my 16" x 8" wheels & tires on. Now it is about 28mpg. I love this car but next time it will DEFINATELY be a TiburonGT.
the fact is that it has been choosen to prevent RPM from dropping when shifting or releasing the gaz pedal for several reasons :
Pollution : a stalling engine is an engine which doesn't burn all the gaz... resulting in pollution
Shifting : it prevents people who don't press the clutch enough to damage the transmission when desengaging gears. it is assume that when engaging the new gear, the clutch is completely pushed.
Clutch : longer life : the differential speed between the transmission input and output is reduced if the RPM is still high instead of dropped to idle between shifting.
So this trouble is not a trouble : and it won't affect reliability of the engine (words from hyundai) but they agree that it may influence gaz millage especially in city driving while shifting occur more than on highway. Nevertheless, they talk about less than 1mpg.
I had my car washed yesterday, there is a rust point just over the front grill on the hood. the paint color has changed on about half an inch from that point. The dealer is saying that it is under my responsability. my car is 9500 km old... even if i live in Québec where there is still some snow in April. he said that i should have bought a front deflector... once again, my precedent elantra95 had some impacts on his hood, but none were cover with rust... and no awful deflector
i have 35,000 miles and had to replace the transmission, something came loose and shot through it and was leaking all over. i think it was something to do with the spider gear or something like that. other then that no problems.8D
