magnet sensor? thats a new one i will try to find it. the other one is a vss inside the dash. I think that guy who went 185 is trying to blow smoke up our ass, his car might have gone 185 kph.
I bought a gauge cluster off of ebay for $10.00 because I was tired of taking mine out and in and whatever.
The VSS reed switch is basically getting signal from the two screws in the back of the gauge cluster. Man I suck at descriptions but I'll keep hashing a few at you guys so if you do go poking around it makes sense. Basically behind the cluster, there is like a circuit board (paperish though) and all of the final connections are made with screws.
Now if you have your cluster out and on your lap as I do, turn it over so all of the screws are facing you. Look at the left where the speedometer is, and you will see 2 screws to the bottom right (separated from the speedometer cable by 2 "wires" for the top one, and 3 "wires" by the bottom). Those are the screws which connect to the VSS on the elantra.
If you don't believe me, you can unscrew the speedometer and take it out. If it is facing down (after taking it out), look at the right side and you'll see 2 screws. Take those out, and then pull that side down (it hinges on the other side). Actually it should come right out. Take a peek, ooh! ahh!
Now I think that to disable this thing, all you really have to do is take out the screws from the back, or at least keep the contacts from making a connection with the screw (rubber washer type deal). Those hold the speedometer in it looks like, so yeah keeping them out could be bad.
But anyway, I've read that disabling this will set off the CEL and reenabling it will cause the CEL to go away shortly thereafter. But knowing this, you can pretty easily run some wire to these two posts and put them to a switch.
reed switches though alot of times send a voltage signal back to the ECU that tells it to stop going as fast as the ECU has set see what happens im curious to hear about this.
The main reason I'm not playing with the reed switch actively in my car is because I kind of rigged my indiglo gauge faces in there and that means there are 2 somewhat difficult wires to reconnect back in there. I wouldn't mind wiring up another switch in my car, in fact I think a new plan and some re-routing is in order. For example: When the guys at the alarm shop stuffed wires under my dash, they did it low enough where my long-ass foot hits the damn thing every time I am using the clutch pedal.
