Ok guys help me out here.
Does anyone know of any major electrical problems in an 02 elantra. I just met a girl whose elantra burnt to a crisp last week, literally becasue of what the dealership is calling a short. She has been to the dealership at leas half a dozen times because of weird things like the door ajar sensor going off while turning a corner, and the check engine light not going off. They couldnt replicate the problem so they brushed it off. We have a fairly good dealership too, so I don't see that as normal.
anyone know of anything that made this car burn to a crisp, from the engine compartment back?

Currently have electrical problems with Elantra GT
Hi
I have a 2002 Elantra with weird electrical issues the dealer cannot figure out. Well documented during warranty - but alas now out and issue more major - the ROOMlp fuse 15 amp continaully blows and causes a short which will not allow car to start.
Original problem started with right power mirror clicking at odd times and an intermittent blowing of this fuse.
I am now in a battle with hyundai and without a working car.
Did they come clearn or resolve the issue with your girlfriend?

I had the wire for the rear hatch light wire that was caught between the latch and the place on the hatch it mounted to shorting out the wire, and now that the wire has been repaired, the light contact switch in the latch is burnt out and it's too much of a hassle to tear it apart to repair.
However, the worst issue was a bad fuel pump that caused serious overheating of the fuel pump relay and scorching the wiring along with it!
The stock front brakes are seriously undersized, the stock clutch is weak, and there is an un-repairable programing glitch (ignition timing retards) costing some of us us at least 15 HP between 3800 and 4200 rpm's!
Hyundai told me that the process of getting federal permission to reprogram the timing issue would cost way too much money, so the few customers who notice the problem can ----- what ----- suck eggs?

go back to your dealership. They can reprogram it to get rid of the "stall" at 3800-4200rpm.
Sorry, did not look at the date.
I did go back to the dealership from about 200 miles on the odometer to until it hit 100,000 miles and they said there was no power loss problem.
I kept it up until the last time I went in (the high 90,000 mile range) and they told me there was no way to do the reprogram of the computer, and I have complained about it for 7 years ---since it was new--- and for 100,000 miles until the warranty expired!

Also check the date. That TSB was out April of 04.
OK, now I'm pissed!!!
When I worked at the dealership I went out of my way to get anything repaired under warranty that I could!!!!
Well, I will print it out and head back there and see if I can get them to fix it, but I believe they will whine and complain about it being out of coverage and want to charge me!
Thank you for the info!

I did get them to correct the issue with the print out!
I still need a new outer drivers u joint and better brakes without tossing the factory aluminum rims and new tires!

I own a 2003 Elantra GT hatch and in 2006 i had a major electrical issue, with the main engine harness, the rad mount was rubbing on the harness and broke thru the alternator wire in that harness and cause a major electrical malfunction, the whole harness melted together. thats the only electrical issue I have seen or had with the 01 to 03 generation of Elantras.
