Default TRanny service, help.

ok, this is really shock for me. First of all. Does my Elantra (2000) really REQUIRES specialized Hyundai tranny fluid SP II? And what really will happen if you put regular Dextron III?

And how baaad is it to put a cork tranny oil pan gasket instead of hyundai's "microfiber" gasket?

and the last. The tranny oil filter I got after market looks a bit different: the original has a small cutaway (not full sqare), where as after market is fully ractangular. The mounting points the same and it fits no problem. IS that crucial?

Thanks.

Yes get the hyundai fluid if you don't use Hyundai ATF you can cause parts to disolve also will cause the bands to slip. Its only like $4 for a quart. If your going to go to all that work why not do the job right. As for the Pan gasket again I would use the Hyundai gasket. OEM fluid is synthetic fluid might leak around a cork gasket. Hyundai designed it like that for a certain reason. As for the filter I wouldn't let that concern you too much theres not that much you can do wrong with a filter.

I dunno my opinion when it comes to tranny filters and oil is that those are cheap...trannies are not...don't cheap out on parts. But that is just the way i think.

www.ca.dsm.org Its the official unofficial discount. for other stuff nothing else from mitsu you can use. I have a 95 Elantra which is completely Mitsu I buy everything from Mitsu as they are WAY cheaper than Hyundai. And whoever is at the parts counter just tell them your a DSMer and your ok. I can't remember the guy who used to be there when I live in Toronto. Call and ask the parts guy for the price on ATF w/ DSM discount it should be like $4.25/liter I think that what I paid last time (about a month or so ago) from KW mitsu.

As stated, only use SP-III fluid. I have had several Hyundai's in my shop with blown transmissions that have had Dexron fluid in them. I took one apart and found that the clutch packs are made of rubber and glass, and the Dexron fluid disolves the rubber component real quick. I also have been to several tech classes at Hyundai and this is what they tell the dealer techs.

Yep. The rubber clutch packs don't do well with any other fluid. I'm not sure how much a 2000 model year tranny is, but the new ones are $2710 each.
