Re: Hyundai Elantra Keyless Entry Remotes and Programming Instructions

I got my remote from ThePartsYouNeed.com in the mail today. 4 days isn't bad for delivery.

Programming was easy, took about 30 seconds. I can't believe a dealership would charge 1/2 hour of labor for a 30 second job. Thats a good way to lose customers.

Anyhow, the remote works great and when I went to put in an order for remote for the Tiburon I noticed I got free shipping, so I bought a 2nd remote for the Elantra and a pair for the Tib. FINALLY I will have remotes that work and that I can use.

ThePartsYouNeed.com rocks!

The instructions I have are basically the complete detailed version of what was posted above. It says they are applicable for all 2001-2004 Elantra models.

Re: Hyundai Elantra Keyless Entry Remotes and Programming Instructions

i spent about 450 dollars and i got keyless entry, auto start, and power front doors (my car was manual doors) - this included the products, work, and installation

maybe that's because a month prior i spent 750 on 4 speakers, sub, amp, and installation - the guy gave me a deal

Don't hold me to this, but this is how you do it on the 01+ elantra.(also the same for the Santa Fe with the 2 button remote)
1. remove the dash shroud (4 screws)
2. behind the ashtray is the ETACS module, it's the computer that controls the alarm, turn signals, basically everything that doesn't make the car move.
3. there's very small DIP switches somewhere on the module, with a 1 and 2. Flip the corresponding switch for the remote, if you're replacing #1, flip the switch with the 1. Might as well do both, but one at a time.
4. After you flipped the switch, press a button on the remote. Flip it back. Now do the other switch and remote.

That's it, but I've never done this, so don't hold me to it. I'm sure once you get the dash off I bet it's pretty straight forward if your IQ is over 75.
I've broke one of my remotes, but haven't sold it on eBay. I'm planning on doing something pimp with it, like moulding it into one of those switchblade keys or something.
Also, I think the remotes are rolling code. So if you operate the remote more than 256 times outside of the range at one time, you need to reset the car doing this.

Since I actually know something, can someone make this a sticky? All of the other models have like 20 stickies, I think the elantra guys need some.

so i guess this would only work on the stock keyless entry?

I have a 2001 Sante Fe and I can't find the ETAC module. IWhen I remove the lower dash cover, I can't see behind the ash tray. Is it supposed to be there on the Santa Fe?
