Hyundai Elantra Keyless Entry Remotes and Programming Instructions
What does your local dealer charge for Hyundai keyless entry remotes?
My Hyundai dealer wants $119 a piece plus $35 for programming for each of my cars (02 Elantra, 03 Tiburon)
I'm curious to see what other dealerships are charging for new remotes and programming.
I'm done with ebay because the listings show new remotes, and 3 out of 3 times I've won - I end up with junk that doesn't work and won't program. First one was superglued together and cracked. Can't check the battery if you can't even open it. Second one was completely corroded inside from water and didn't work. The 3rd one only 1 button worked and it looked like someone tried to superglue the circuit board pieces back together. Each one was advertised as new, or like new and they obviously weren't anywhere close to that. The Keyles Ride site is run by one of those same lying ebay sellers, so thats off the list too.
What does your local dealership charge? I bet there's some that want even more than what mine is charging.

Programming is free if you do it yourself.
Don't hold me to this, but this is how you do it on the 01+ elantra.(also the same for the Santa Fe with the 2 button remote)
1. remove the dash shroud (4 screws)
2. behind the ashtray is the ETACS module, it's the computer that controls the alarm, turn signals, basically everything that doesn't make the car move.
3. there's very small DIP switches somewhere on the module, with a 1 and 2. Flip the corresponding switch for the remote, if you're replacing #1, flip the switch with the 1. Might as well do both, but one at a time.
4. After you flipped the switch, press a button on the remote. Flip it back. Now do the other switch and remote.
That's it, but I've never done this, so don't hold me to it. I'm sure once you get the dash off I bet it's pretty straight forward if your IQ is over 75.
I've broke one of my remotes, but haven't sold it on eBay. I'm planning on doing something pimp with it, like moulding it into one of those switchblade keys or something.
Also, I think the remotes are rolling code. So if you operate the remote more than 256 times outside of the range at one time, you need to reset the car doing this.
Since I actually know something, can someone make this a sticky? All of the other models have like 20 stickies, I think the elantra guys need some.

It would be way cheaper to buy an aftermarket one.
Or, you could go to a junkyard and get an ETACS off a GLS with keyless, and a solenoid for the driver's side lock, and just swap it in. I think the ETACS in the GT may be different. I remember reading somewhere that there are something like 8 different ETACS for the 01+ XD's, all depending on options.

the aftermarket doesnt work very well, you have to strip the wire so that the actuator can grab onto it, but its rather unstable and doesnt work very well, i want to know how the hyundai actuator works so that i can use it with my viper alarm
