Has anyone ever had any issues with dealers giving them a hard time about warrenty work?

Also, what are your general likes and dislikes about the car? Would you buy another one?

Thanks

Default Reliable elantra

Well,
I will tell you how reliable my brother-in-law’s Elantra has been.
It was a 2000 GLS automatic transmission.
He was moving to the Midwest few years ago, from Miami, I flew to Miami to prepare the car for the trip.
It was making a horrible noise; the engine was so loud…
I attempted to do an oil change, when I drained the oil it had about one quart of oil, so thick it almost never came out.
His wife was driving it for 20K miles no oil change.
I tuned it up, replaced the oil and fuel filter, I added the Mobil one full synthetic 15K miles oil, we drove the entire next day, the Elantra had luggage, two adults and two kids inside. Also this car had never had transmission oil changed.
After driving 800 miles , in Tennessee, parking the car at the hotel parking lot, we hear this loud noise under the hood, and the steering turned hard. I said, lets park it , tomorrow we will deal without the power steering belt.
Next morning, sure enough, the belt had broken, there were pieces everywhere, I used a knife to cut whatever was left of the belt.
Ran to the Wal-Mart down the road , bought new Oil, ( Full synthetic Mobil one ) drained it right there at the parking lot, did another oil and filter change, need to get rid of the sludge, at this point the car was running super smooth, the engine was nice and quiet. Because the power steering belt is independent, not associated with the alternator ( on the 2000 GLS ) we drove the remained 500 miles with no power steering.
Well to make a long story short, the car is still being driven, we replaced its alternator last month, with 140K miles , still goes strong…

Got an 05 bought it new with 7miles on it. Besides regular scheduled maintnence Ive had one flat tire and the steering column fell into my lap at mile 103 but this was a fluke of sorts but its now almost 2013 and 50k miles later its still legit...oh I did have to replace the radiator and all hoses.

One of the two recurring issues I find is the parking brake cable boots by the rear wheel.
When one splits and water gets in there, then freezes, the rear caliper that is on that cable will not let go.

Also, after a few winters, the rear caliper sliders are the same way.
When the rubber boot where it slides gets a leak, the caliper slide pin starts to rust, sticks and does not want to slide or even come out on a brake job.

The time before my last break job I had to hammer the pin out clamping it vice-grips and then had to use a drill bit to get the remaining rust out of the hole..
I lubed the heck out of it and it was still rusted on the last break job.
Now it looks like every spring, I will have to pull the rears apart and lube them.

I guess I need to price out a new pair.
