i have a 2001 hyundai elantra gls that has been having issues with the transmission. i bought the car private sale from my ex's father. i knew of the problematic transmission before i bought it so i wasnt blind sided by that. the reason they stopped using the car was that my ex's sister would be doing highway driving and it would all of a sudden down shift to 35mph and the check engine light kept coming on. i got it and now its doing something completely different. with me, intermittantly for the first 7ish months ive had it (since july of '10), if i rev the engine too high or accelerate too quickly it stalls out and stays stuck in 3rd gear. but now when it comes on, almost every day/every other day, (the check engine light), ive only been driving the car for maybe 25-30 minutes and it stays in third gear. so basically, i want to know whats causing that and if the TCM was recalled for that year because that is a really fricken expensive part and i lack the money atm to get a new one, much less the labor to get it fixed. it also sounds like it is over compensating and when i hit 35mph it sounds like it might be grinding. and its only at 35mph when it does that. any help or light on the situation would be really helpful
