Hi Freek, it`s Nick!.....I replied when you first posted this question, but it seems to have been lost when they moved the topic.
Apart from Halfords, which now has a Ripspeed Tuning dept. in most of the larger stores,
most of the motoring/tuning retailers in the U.K. are either small regional chains or single private shops. These sell all the usual cleaning & servicing materials, plus a few tuning & `ricey` parts. Some of the larger units will also sell alloys/tyre packages & ICE.
Names such as Carnoisseur, Motorists Discount Centres, R-Tech Design & Xtreme Motorsport are outlets of this type (although some now have .com sales operations as well).
The Specialist Tuning market is dominated by 7/8 companies who mainly sell by Mail Order / Courier delivery via a Catalogue & Websites....such names as Demon Tweeks, Essex Racing, Peter Maiden, Larkspeed, Amber Performance & Redline Performance Components feature among these.
Lastly, of course, a large amount of cleaning & basic service/breakdown material is sold in the shops attached to petrol stations & by-and-large, most tyres, batteries , shock-absorbers & exhausts are sold/fitted by specialist national chains, such as Kwik-Fit, Stapletons Tyre Services, A.T.S. etc..
Altogether Freek , I think the situation here must be fairly similar to the rest of Europe.
I hope this helps with your assignment....we`ll `talk` again soon I expect!..
