Default 98'Tib.vs. 06'Civic Si

I raced a Civic Si. Rolling start in 2nd gear at 40mph. Obviousely the Tib. had the advantage since we have lots o torque at low RPM and the Civic's VTEC engages at 6000RPM. My car jumped in front of him by almost a full length, 2nd thru 4th gears I still kept ahead of him and we stoped. We race 4 times and it was the same thing. Almost a full length ahead of him. The Civic Si is from my cousin that bought it almost 2 months ago. He wanted to teach me a (LESSON) and said that Hyundai's suck. No way to talk to a Hyundai Aficionado! My car has CAI, Header, Rear section 2.5" Obx Greddy Evo style Muffler, port and polished intake manifold and 60mm GTR Throttle body. All that and a tuned Apexi S-AFC. The Civic only had a Fujita CAI. Remember: Civic Si=197Hp Tiburon=140HP!

Good gearing. The vetch takes FOREVER to get to, and then you shift.. and you almost fall completely out of the power band.

Nice.

that's rubbish if you talk about 197hp version. it has a lot of torque down low because the i-VTEC system. Learn more about it. And it doesn't fall of from the powerband when you change gears..but yeah race is race and IMO this was very rare win for hyundai tiburon.

odd..

here is one (not so good to read) dynograph about civic type-r engine:

Reflash - Euro Civic Type R

and here is another one from supersprint web site:

http://www.supersprint.com/pdf/92ci23.pdf

as you can see at 3000rpm the torque is 190nm from engine which is more down low than tiburon engine and stays there all the way up to 6000 rpm until i-vtec reaches its race cam blope and have a little bit of jump to 200nm and stays high quite nicely there to 8000rpm.

How you know that is a SI, I had see some EX with SI badges, wheels, spoiler, etc in Puerto Rico. I remember one guy that say that he races an SI and pulls 5 cars on it. He has a Lancer RallyArt with some mods. I ask him to try with mine and he just end up as a liar the beater becomes owned. He just realize that he raced a EX with a R18 engine of 140hp.

HYPERACER With that setup of of your car it must be putting like 135whp to the ground. Its just imposible to beat a car of 170whp with the right driver on it. Not even the lighter weight of your tib helps you in the math. Your tib has approx 19 lb/hp and the SI like 16 lb/hp the ratio of the Honda is much better. K20Z3 engine has more torque than many people think, I was saying the same thing before about Honda engines but after driving one I change my mind its feels a lot more torque on the mid range than a Beta 2.0l engine. We can try with mine to see if your tib is really that good. The only problem is that I live in Trujillo Alto and I doubt that you or I will travel all those miles for just a race. Or exchange of cars you drive the Civic and he your tib you will be surprise of all the cars that you will lead the race.

I sell my 99 tib that has a Zex nitrous kit 65 shot with I/E/H (max ratings 180whp/180wtq) the best time that I achieve in Carolina was 15.0 @ 93mph with nitto drags but I was able to keepup with 14's cars. The funny thing is that I test the SI at the same track with stock tires and I made similar runs than in my tiburon with N2O with 60 pounds less of wheel-torque and in a more heavier car and also I test with some of the car that I raced with the nitrous tib and it was the same thing.

I will go again to try without the spare tire, air compressor, back-pack, notebook pack, 1/4 or less of fuel tank, etc.. To see how good a run of 14's looks in the time display of the track with a car that only has a Injen CAI with a bad driver.

Other thing that I notice on the SI is that revs more faster.

For example on the tib on second gear @ 6500 RPM I was able to hit 60mph (approx). On the SI @ 8300RPM I can barely hit 56MPH on second gear.

In other words thanks to the transmission the SI can rev faster and it will get to the happy point sooner that most people think.

yeah si has very short ratio gearbox and the engine is more rev happy and made to rev fast, hyundai´s best feature is ermmhh the longivity and a little bit torque mmm in down low but the crank shaft in hyundai is very heavy.

2nd at 40mph in my elantra is going to make about 4500rpm, thats in a car with a final of 3.65. The civic has a closer gearset, just assuming, so he SHOULD have been able to hit an rpm alteast somewhat close to engauging the larger portion of his cam. What I think? Your cousin doesn't know how to drive and was in to high of a gear to start with.. not that Im saying you didn't win, but you beat him. Not the car.

(Funny note here. When I first joined HP.com people called BS on lantra for beating one of the 160hp 111lbs trq SIs with a gutted bolt on j2 elantra. Funny how times have changed. Same beta vs a stronger honda and now its an easy kill here, lol)
