I am a little bit dissapointed with the times of the Sonata V6. I took out all unnecessary things like spare tire and other junk. The car had a weight of 3450lbs with a quarter tank of gas without me and 3590 with me. My times were:
I alternated with keeping it in drive and using the manumatic mode. Any ways the times seem a little slow. Whether I had the car in D or sport mode the car shifted into 2nd at 5500rpm, into 3rd at 5750rpm. Is 6000rpm the redline for the lamda 6? Is there something wrong or is that where the car shifts at. I was hoping to take it to the track and get some good times and give hyundai a better rep as being sporty, but I seemed to have failed. Any other Sonata owners have better or worse times.
15.7 isn't bad time for a Hyundai but you're right it should be little better for having 233bhp. looks like you're having horrible 60 feet times there. that must eat your ET a lot.
My first 2 runs were done when the temperature was 22 degrees celcius, and other 2 runs were done in 12 degrees ceclius weather. The sky was clear and there was a side wind at 10kph. My Sonata doesn't have ESC or traction control. Car has 1800km on it. Would it make any difference if I break torqued it a bit or used premium gas. Could the use of premium gas make things worse. Anyways I am going to make some more runs when I am at the 3000+km mark, with synthethic oil and at the car weighing in at 3450lbs. The manual says there is no formal break in period, but to take it easy for a little bit. I see that Motor Trend got a 15.2 at 92.5mph on a 2006 Sonata. Here is the link being compared to 4 other cars http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...cs_prices.html Did the Sonata gains some weight from 2006 to 2007.
Break torquing will help, and so will breaking the engine in. At 40,000 miles a car is truely fully broken in and will usually preform its best.
Also.. alot of drag tracks are not flat but can run up or downhill. Luckily for me the cloest track to me is the Flatest track west of the mississippi. He he.

The Track elevation is 500 meters, and I am told the track is almost perfectly level. As with my 60 foot times what do you think I should be getting? I did 2 other runs with brake torques but they were in the 16's so I didn't want to post those times. with a 2000rpm brake torque I had a 2.563 and with a 1500 rpm brake torque I had a 2.511 60 foot. Suprisingly my best run was on the lane with the slightly less grip with the car in D and me just flooring it, all my runs chirped the wheels. Brake torquing gave a more wheel sping with more rpms. You're telling me that I'm going to have to do 2-3 years of driving to get the engine broken in. A friend has an 05 eclipse which has 35 more HP and weighs about the same and has a 5sp auto and is a whole second faster with a 60 foot time of 2.3XX and car had 3000km on it. So I figured I'd be 0.5 seconds slower.
