I wish I could let bad info die but I can't. Once and for all:

SUGAR DOES NOT DISOLVE IN GAS NO MORE THAN SAND DISSOLVES IN WATER !!!!!!

What it does do is temporarily plug the sock in the tank when the fuel pump is running. When you shut the car off, the sugar falls back down in the tank and the car runs again for a short time till it happens again. This drives techs nuts and wind up changing alot of parts trying to find the problem (that's why you do it).

The reason you use sugar (and not sand) is because you can't see it in the tank because it turns clear when it's wet. IT DOES NOT DISSOLVE !!!!! Put some in a glass jar with gas AND TRY IT YOURSELF !!!!!

Anything you heard different is rumor or speculation.

The only way it can hurt is if it causes a lean mixture.
