Default Ripoff!

Ok, my beta needs a head gasket..
So, I call the mechanic as I am boring to do it myself and just ask for a price...
The damn fucker idiot says all relaxed: $700!
Heart attack, stroke came to me. Just what the fuck is this? Some new fashion ripping people like this? The damn gasket has what? 20bucks? I don't understand this...
700$ for 1 day? Gee.. if I could make that kind of money I'd be rich... What's wrong with those idiots anyway. I'm going to do a full diy and won't cost me even $60 including machinery work for the head. Fuck off and die you stupid son of bitch!

That's pretty average for replacing a head gsket to be honest. In the previously owned neon, I had to get it replaced 3 times (known issue with the POS's) and the bill said $679 each time, but was covered by a recall/known issue, so cost me nada.

if someone believes a job is worth that much to them, they will pay it. im not sure where the stealing is occurring, but i'm fairly naive. now if they weren't willing to work a deal with you if you were doing the head gasket and timing and accessory belts, then that would be lame.

Headgaskets are around 50-80 bux... Haven't done one on a Hyundai before but I've done them on a V8 and they're 130 for a gasket set and I've done one for the 3.8 Mustang and the gasket set was 85 dollars. It took us a full day and mechanics charge anywhere from 40-75 bux an hour depending on where you go.

They can't overcharge for hours because they do have that hourly labor cost manual. If it says it'll take 6 hours, they can only charge you 6 hours even if it takes 10. But most of the time, it'll take 2-3 and they still charge the 6 hours xP

So, I dont think it's that bad. 700 bux? Do it yourself. Buy a water pump while you're at it if it's around that time, and a timing belt because you'll have to do it sooner or later, and why not do it while the head is off?

Howie~

My diy pride is back. The head is already in the machinery shop being shaved (50$), new gasket set which includes every single gasket for 100$ and that's it. Back to business tomorrow with 11:1 compression. Withe the rest 550$ I'll go to a strip club or sth LOL
