Default Oil in Intake Manifold and TB

pop quiz...

Common problem with symptom of oil in the intake manifold, throttle body, and intercooler piping?

also note: one valve ticked like a mo-fo and the past owner OVER filled the oil by about 3 litres (only has a 4 litre sump). Valve still ticks a little bit.

Vehicle is a 1980-something Mazda Mx-6 GT Turbo (inline 4 turbocharged SOHC)

Thanks,
Grimmy

Sounds like a bad turbo to me, The oil seal has gone bad and there is oil leaking into the compressor and it's getting pushed up into the intake.

its normal to get oil in your intake from where the valve cover vents to the intake pipe, it expecially happens on turbocharged cars look on ebay for an oil catch tank they run between 30 and 100 dollars, you just connect it inline of the tube and all the oil will go into the catch can instead of the intake. At quite a few race tracks these are required to be fitted on cars to race.

that or its just oil from the valve cover breather tube oil blow back just like in my car. Which I clean out about once a month from hard decelleration(spelling). Valve ticking possible has a failed HLA if they came with those cars I don't know. Or a bent valve.

The oil in your intake manifold would have come through the PCV valve in the valve cover......after the oil-overfill it would have literally poured through!.
Some turbo cars also have a crank-case breather which vents oil-fumes back into the intake pipe between the filter & turbo to be re-burned for emission-control, this leads to a coating of oil in the intercooler, up-pipe, throttle-body & intake manifold.
A tapping hydraulic lifter can often be cured by using flushing oil before re-filling with 5W/40 pure synthetic oil.
Cheers,
Nick.

Actually bro, check the oil thickness, my friend has a mazda mx-6 v6, it was 94 or 96 or something. The engine was beat to hell, but looked good and ran good for a while, I guess the guy used super thick oil to cover the loud ticking the valve train was making. There wasn't anything the shop could do once they found out, the entire engine just siezed up, and the engine was toast. Luckily his dad went down to the car dealer and reamed the guy out...so they replaced the motor with a ford probe 2.5 v6. Same motor with some minor differences. I'd get that checked for though.

My bro bought the car some time ago, and the oil light was on. he checked the dip stick, and before he drove it home, he empied around 3 litres from the sump. once he got it home, he started to work on this real fixer upper, and started changing fluids. I think hes using Castrol oil - 10 or 5 W 30. All fluid levels are good now, and all have been changed.

Right now, we are replacing all the solid steel brake lines, soft lines, calipers and pistons, pads, rotors... everything that connects to the now new brake booster.

Thanks,
Grimmy

bad turbos cause oil in IM have it checked thicker oil quiets valves dont use 5W in a turbo use 10W especially if the valve tap bothers you
