OBD-II Scanner & Software

Does anybody have any OBD-II Scanners and laptop software? I'm looking around, trying to see what I like best.

http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/AT/AutoTap_OBDII_for_Windows.shtml

there's an example of what I'm talking about. If anybody has anything similar, let me know what you think about it and where you got it.

I'm really looking into buying but have no clue what's out there and what to consider... and a pricing range? I've seen it for as low as $125 or so... and most between $200-250

is the software able to be installed on multiple computers? (in case I do get another laptop, could I have it onboth? or if I borrow the software from someone else to see if I like it)

Can I get the cable elsewhere, or do I need a specific cable (hardware) to work with the specific software that goes with it?

It would pretty much just be used for troubleshooting and instead of buying 10 gauges to go in the car. I want something I can use with my laptop. It isn't for turbo, I've got a basic N/A setup, but I figured you FI guys would have a better idea on this stuff :

Re: OBD-II Scanner & Software

I use the Software and cable from Alex Pepper at http://www.obd-2.com/ and it does everything I need, it lets you set-up a virtual dashboard with just about any gauge you want

plus you can read any trouble codes and clear the cel, and you can monitor the o2 readings, for the money it was worth it, you can download the software of the sight to take a look but it won't work without the cable and registration number.

Re: OBD-II Scanner & Software

I'm using Digimoto. It does all the basic stuff plus has a virtual dyno, chart comparison, and logging system. I bought it because they seemed to have great feedback on ebay and it was the cheapest one I could find. Turned out to work great. Random is also using it but hasn't gotten back with us on it.

Here's the ebay link. Make sure to buy the comlete $95 auction because the other auctions could be selling the individual parts. Check out the demo links to see what it does.

Re: OBD-II Scanner & Software

I have the Digimoto too. But I need the new software. I downloaded it, but can't get my CD burner to burn it to disc so I can use it on my laptop... Jon, a=can you burn me a copy? Ill pay for the disc, and shipping. I have the code to make it work, but like I said, my burner isnr working.

Back on subject, It IS a vey handy tool, definatley worth the $99.99 USD!!! You can use other software, with the obdII interface. If you do it correctly the dyno is rather accurate.

Re: OBD-II Scanner & Software

You'll notice that there exist at least 3 kinds o protocols, so the wire with the OBDII connector is different.
Pick the correct one for your case.

Re: OBD-II Scanner & Software

well, for fast moving graphics, I would want to make sure the laptop has some system resourses for graphics... but more importantly that it has an Active TFT display.

I am going to be getting something like:
P200
14" Active TFT display
2 Gig HD or larger
128 MB Ram or better
8 MB Vid Ram or better
USB, Serial, and Parellel ports built in
1 or 2 PCMCIA card ports for network ability - so I can use it in my garage as a shop computer
Windows 98 Second edition OS
DC to AC power converter

This way I can use it with the Fuel controller and with the ODBII or for other purposes at my whim...

I estimate that with the above system, it would sufficient to handle these minor tasks.
