My insurance agent also has a tibby GT and told me that the mechanic at the dealership pulled the governing chip for him. He says that it tops at 156 mph now. I asked the guys at my dealership and they said they could get in to much trouble for doing it, but that it probaly was possible. Is this something anyone knows anything about? Could I do it myself?(safely) THANKS
I know lots of guys who have hit 150 with the gov. It really isnt worth the time or money to do it. You never will be going that fast that often that it will even matter. Id put your efforts on making your car go faster from 0-60 rather than 120-156.

I posted this a long time ago and nobody believed me then but, if you can find a long straight away about 2 to 3 miles long, that is at a slight downgrade, you can hit 160 in 6th gear at 6500 rpm's. I did it once and it scared the hell out of me. I was like and  and aranoid:

Yeah def. not Gov.'d. On my "stupid, ricer" top speed run on video once she hit 140 it sat...but doesnt mean it couldnt go farther. I mean If i wanted to go another mile, mile 1/2 i could have hit 150. Just that once it hits 140 it takes longer than safe for engine/driver to keep going.
there is no "chip" to pull out..so they lied to someone. Currently, if you want to bump the rev limiter up..contact me for the only way to do it currently.
Tell you Insurance agent he was lied to..
All the "chips" are soldered to the board and nothing can be pulled out.
