I had gotten this idea after reading a magazine article about a 4WD Converted Acura Integra. The short story: they did the conversion using a transmission, differential, drive shaft, axles, etc. from a CRV and custom-fited them to the Integra. After all said and done, it worked well.
Has anyone ever gotten the idea to try this with a Santa Fe and Tibruon? Is it even theoretically possible?

Obnoxious? Heh.. you don't even know.

It has been done, but the car has suddenly disappeared. I don't know if it actually ran, but Streetconcepts did it.. Who knows what happened to that car..:ermm:

acutally..the car was never AWD...it just had the rear axel mounted. There never to the best of my knowledge a drive shaft connceting the two. To do that they would have had to take the S. FE AUTO trans.....and everytime I saw the car it was the 6spd.

Now i know there has been a 4wd Tibu...but it was i think a 1st gen tiburon(one with rounded lights??)...with awd trans out of a Mitsu eclipse GSX..or was it just the rear axle/suspension..might be wrong??...it was a Pikes Peak rally car....i remember though it suffered a crash in the event...maybe 4-5 years ago
Yes, a company supposedly did it and showed the car at SEMA 2002 and yes there was no rear drive shaft. I know, because I was the one the who got down on the floor and although you couldn't see, I guess the didn't count on me running my arm under the car with my camera to snap pics. LOL
If you were to actually do this, you will have to remove the gas tank and mount a fuel cell in the hatch (which they did) and you will also have to use an automatic transmission since the manual doesn't mount to the AWD. Altough AWD will give better launches, you will lose that advantage with the automatic and the extra drive train loss. You will also lose on top end. If you are doing it to gain better handling, there are much better and cheaper ways to do this.
The other Tib shown that used mitsubishi parts is the Libra rally Tib. They did this to a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Tib and it too could be done if you have a lot of skill with custom fabricating, a shop to do it in, and enough money to just go out and buy an EVO.

There is a replacement for displacement. It is on 2 wheels and 600cc.
These guys are all full of shit. It's actually incredibly easy to convert a Tib to AWD. All you have to do is drop off your Tib and $80,000 to Libra Racing, builders of the Hyundai SCCA ProRally cars.
