if anyone want to do this and needs a copy of the templates, email me or pm me your address and ill try to have them in the mail the next day
OK...as some of you know..i ordered the clear side markers from kspec. Here is the link to them : http://www.kspec.com/list.php?ac_id=92&ai_id=861
Here are the tools i used :
-Dremel with cutting wheels (a bunch, cause they break and wear down quick)
-10mm socket for wheel well bolts
-#2 phillips head for the fasteners in the wheel wells
-Soldering iron and solder for the wires
-wire for the lights (i used some leftover speaker wire i had)
-Blue Painter's Tape (leaves no sticky residue when pulled off)
-Touch Up Paint (so that the exposed metal doesn't rust)
-Black Electrical Tape
-Zip Ties
-Razor Blade
-Safety Goggles (you dont want metal shavings or hot solder in your eyes!)
ok..so here we go......
these are the side markers...i am ordering titanium bulbs to go in them so that you cant see any orange when they are off
these are the templates YellowTuscRcr in canada sent me to position the side markers
I taped the template on the car using painter's tape and stenciled in the shape with a sharpie marker
I then used the painter's tape and taped around the stencil just in case i slipped a little bit with the dremel
Then i went to work with the cutting wheels being very carefull not to slip (which i didnt, thank god).. i tried the stone and metal bits first but they just didnt work at all except to scratch the hell out of the metal..the cutting wheels work surprisingly well...as i cut, i kept trying to put the side marker in as i went along so that i wouldnt cut the hole too big....i ended up needing to make changes in the size of the hole to accomidate the side marker...this is what i ended up with
After I got the hole cut to size i used hyundai touch up paint to protect the exposed metal from rust..please pay special attention to my pimpin safety goggles
While the paint dried, it was time to work on the side markers....
Since my car didnt have the connecter for the side marker, i dremeled off the plastic around the electrical leads
Then i cut about 2 1/2 feet of the speaker wire and soldered the wire to each lead of the side marker...then i wrapped it up with electrical tape
Next I Installed the side marker and ran the wire into the hole in the front of the fender which comes out in the engine bay right next to the turn signal connector on the headlight. I used zip ties and ran the wire along an existing wire bundle
OK..still with me? I then took a razor blade and exposed the wires going to the turn signal by cutting down the center of the plastic cover. Ignore the BROWN wire ..the other two wires, no matter what their color might be, are the ones you use..DO NOT USE THE BROWN WIRE (its the parking light wire)...i then cut off some of the plastic shielding around the two wires which exposed the wire itself.... then i soldered the speaker wire onto the exposed wires..it doesnt matter which wire goes where...either way will work...it doesnt matter which is positive or which is negative..the side marker will work either way....i then used electrical tape to wrap up the wires..sorry i didnt get any good pics of this step...
Now go put on your hazards and test it! all that and its only half way done....now do the other side the same exact way..all the holes and screws and bolts are the same on the other side...
here are some other pics
