Default First time buyer looking at wrecked 2003 Tiburon....

It's sitting in a tow yard, but the guy seems "shady" when I mention paper work.
This car runs nice! But before I deal with this guy, I want to verify ALL vin numbers....

He told me I could look the car over before I make any deals...

does anyone know the locations of the vin numbers on the frame?
I figure I can compare them with the title...?

Look in the lower right hand side on the dottom of the windshield..Also look inside the drives door. Will be listed the car VIN#..also ask for a carfax report before buying!

On my Accent at least, there are also vin stickers on the hatch (near the latch), rear bumper (very bottom center), I think on the hood... probably every major part, maybe even including the engine.

Why would you ask for a carfax? So it can tell you what you already know, that the car was wrecked.:hmmm:

Look at the Vin under the windshield, it will be sufficient. I doubt the guy is running a chop shop if the bussiness has been there a while. The guy probably seems shady because he is selling you junk with a salvaged title. But if you feel it is repairable, then take it to a shop to have them look it over and find out how much it will cost.

Even if everything is cheaper then buying a non-wrecked one, keep in mind the diminished value of a car that has been wrecked. Especially if it has a salvaged title.

I say stay away from these types of purchases.

well I'm not running a carfax, to tell me what I already know...I didn't mention anything about carfax.

The main reason why I'm am asking for ID information is because the vin plate on the door is gone,
he said he didn't know why....and the numbers on the windshield plate look weird, almost to the point
that I might have to remove the windshield and clean the rust and scratches off with some emery cloth....

And this guy does seem like he runs a chop shop....so yea..I'm not asking just for the hell of it...
I thought the question in this situation was valid...

I'm looking to bring the car out of California and in to Nevada where I currently live. And the
state to state transfer will clean the title as it did with my 300zx, but they require an inspection.

If it's cheap and repairable go for it...I did, I paid a few grand and the sucker only had 3,000 miles on it, it now has 40,000 with no problems what so ever..Even though the value is diminished, you can mod the hell out of it, since you have no warranty anyway..It can be a fun mod car..
