Default Cold Air Intake: Brand Name vs Ebay Special

Well, I just bought an 03 Tib V6, so now naturally I am planning what to do to it. Of course, my first thought is CAI. But, I am new to tuning, so I have a question. What is the difference between a $200 AEM intake and a $20 ebay special intake, other than $180? A 3" diameter pipe is a pipe is a pipe. I can understand about maybe the quality of finish or filter. But such a difference seems crazy to me.

Thanks

I have the mikes and am happy with them. I bought the ebay one. My buddy has the AEM. Mine routes the same, has the same size pipe. My theory was the same as yours bro.(pipes are pipes) I should have puit it on the dyno but I already had exhaust done. There are pictures of mine in my profile.

I've got the AEM one cuz it was free........but i have seen the E-bay one and it does look simular but the filter element is not the same and it alows dirt to pass through it more easily.......I know this because we pulled the throttle body off to clean it and found the surge tank to be full of that fine dirt <it was bad news> that means that dirt is sanding down your engine components and heading towards premature failure ( YIKES)

I forgot to add that I changed out the filter that came with it and added a K&N cone. Sorry.

It saved me a lot of cash. I spent $40 on the system and another $50 on the K&N filter. The saved money went toward my exhaust system.

That is a damn fine idea. I have seen them as cheap as $20 on ebay. I like the way you think. Thanks for the replies.
