I feel your pain. I did that to each hand (separate occasions) a few years back, but no where near as much burned skin as you have. Healed up nicely with no scar though, so hopefully you'll get the same.

That was a serious burn. You did a good job (joke). Looks like it is healing up very good.

It was originally posted in flame... I'm usually not that careless...:ermm:
I go to the plastic surgeon tomorrow to see if I need a skin graft, but I don't think I'll need one. The oozing area is already raised above the rest of the skin...
My roommate did something similar. She was frying fish and the pan caught on fire and when she tried to put it out, she spilt it all over her hand. She was in the hospital for like 2 weeks. I have pics of that if anyone wants them. But if they are grease burns and they are really bad then they might need to be lanced or else they can just get worse and end up burning the skin underneath. Grease is a really tricky thing to get burned with. I'd make sure that you go to an actual burn unit. We were at the one at USD and they said for grease burns Silvadyne doesn't really do much because it deals with the top part of the hand, and the grease keeps seeping in deeper into the skin...but I hope everything works out with you...Good Luck:nervous:

I think the best thing I did (even though I ripped off the top layer of skin) was attempt to get the grease off of my hand with the oven mitt (pure reaction to the pain)... I then had it under cold, running tap water for about half an hour before I went to the hospital.
I just got back from the plastic surgeon and she indicated that it was healing very well, severe 2nd degree burn. I just need to keep it protected until the wound dries out and scabs over. Once the skin closes, I'll have to keep it out of the sun until the redness goes away.
yeah...taking the top skin was important. My roommates hand basically looks like she beat the crap out of me with it. Really red, it'll be like that for about a year or so and you're going to have some stiffness in the joints and it won't be as flexible but all in all it should be ok.
