Default Lumps?

Hey doc,

I just discovered two "lumps" under the skin on the left side of my neck. They are about 3 - 4 inches directly over from where you take your pulse, on the side of my neck towards the back. It's hard to tell, but it feels like 2 separate "lumps" next to each other. When I press on them, they feel firm but sligtly squishy, and I can move them with pressure. It hurts when I do this, and when I move my neck around afterwards. The other side, I felt around and can't find anything of the sort. You can also see them a little, looks like to bumps, kinda like how the spine bumps out on the back of the neck.

I did have a car accident over 2 years ago where I sustained neck strain and went to physical therapy and a chiropractor for treatment. I still get cramps and stiffness a lot. But it's been ok lately, no pain and I just kinda found these when running my fingers along my neck. They didnt start hurting till after I touched them. So I don't know what's going on, if I have permanent neck damage, if it has to do with that. I'm worried that these my be tumors though. Please tell me they're not.

those are lymph nodes. THey produce anti-bodies to keep your body healthy. Normally the only time they will get large is if your body is fighting of an infection. So they will get larger, due to that they are producing more Lymph. What lymph is, is its a fluid used to assist the movement for cells to help fight infections... nothing to worry about, unless they stay enlarged for awhile.

yeah, they are kind of nifty because you can tell when you are about to be sick before you feel it. i wouldn't play with them too much though, probably not the best thing to be squeezing and prodding them.

Could be lymphnodes and also could be Trigger Points (TP). Typically lymphnodes don't hurt and TP do. If these lumps don't get smaller in 3-4 days, get in to see a physician or chiropractor and get checked.

People in auto accidents can still be healing 2-5 years after the accident.

My lymph nodes will hurt if they're swollen and I push on them...

There are a lot of lymph nodes, maybe this will help you determine if it's the right location for lymph nodes or not. BTW you should be able to find them on the opposite side of the neck if you feel around, but if they're not swollen it can be hard to pinpoint them.
