Default Old war injury....

Hurt my ankle running. I was told by an army doc I hurt something that surronds a tendon or tendons?? I can put pressure on it but any side to side movement freaking kills me. I have a brace on it and Im taking advil. Any ideas on if that doc is crazy and if not how do I keep this from happening again? BTW its been fine. I stretched the night I ran when the pain returned.

Give me some more info. as to what happened now and or in the past to this ankle.

Sounds like you sprained it recently and that's causing your current problem or in the past it was sprained and some arthritis/bursitis/tendonitis is occuring.

RICE: Rest, Ice (20 minutes on or until numb which ever is first), Compression, and Elevation. Do this over the first 24-36 hours. After the swelling and inflammation is down. Introduce moist heat and stretching ankle in dorsi/plantar flexion (foots goes up and down, but not side to side).

Drink plenty of water as well as eating fresh pineapples.

If you would need therapy: Ultrasound and EMS/hivolt would be recommended.

First time around:

Needed new shoes but it was hard as hell to find any in my size (big feet lol) at the base I was at. Ironically the day before someone was on there way home from R&R with some shoes it started. (The doc I talked to said it could have been caused by the worn out shoes + running on a hard surface) I ran an easy 2 miles that morning, didn't hurt. Didn't twist it, step on anything, etc. About lunch time that day I stood up and as I turned to walk out of a door it felt like someone stabbed me in the ankle. That night one ankle was noticeably larger than the other.

The pain on a scale of 1-10, 7
-Doesn’t hurt when my full weight is on it
-Hurts to touch about 2-3inchs above the ankle itself on the inner side. I can tell it’s something to do with the tendon because what hurts to touch I can feel move
-Hurts like hell when my foot twists or if Im standing on anything that’s not perfectly level.

Now, ran Monday night. Didn’t twist it etc. This time it started to hurt until later in the day (Tuesday). This time it was hardly noticeable at first then got worse. Today, it comes in waves. Itll hurt like hell of about an hour then wont bother me, etc. I got home for work and propped it up… made it a lot worse. Now it just freaking hurts with any movement like before. Pain 1-10 this time around 5, 6 at times. Not as bad but its in the exact same spot

Last treatment was something like you suggested and it took about 6 weeks to stop messing with me. Id rather actually find the cause of this crap because well, it sucks.

If you were closer, I'd take a look and see what's up. Have you had X-rays taken recently or within last year of that area?
