Re: Auto to 5-speed swap on my 97 Tiburon COMPLETED!!!!!
yes and no if you pull out the plugs and remember where they go then no if you forget then yes ether way its a lot of work you can just use the harness you have now because their is very little differience between the two that = less work :

actually..
you have to replace aLL THE WIRRING
for the wirirng swtich.
The Dash/ECU harness and the engine bay.
that requires more work.
now instead of rewirirng 3 wires and getting a plug. ((wow what a big hassel) ) if you think thats a hassel dont bother trying to do the swap.
but to do the harnessing.
umm, you get to take ALL THE DASH off, that sa oculd couple hours work.
Its gotta be totally stripped to the metal to get to all the harness.
next you gotta do the fedner wall, removing that to feed the engine harness into the engine bay from the cockpit.
now thats is a HASSEL!
If you just replace the engine bay harness, I am afraid you will have a CEL for forever.
since now some wires are good and some are not...we have no way how to tell you wire it now.

there are not pictures.
You got 2 options.
If you are confident, you get a shop manual and do it in your garage like me.
if you are a wuss, go pay a shop $3k in labor plus parts to do it.

I'm also interested in an official writeup of this modification. My main focal point is the installation part of the manual transmission- since my synchros are shot and my friend says it would be better on labor costs to get a tranny from the junk yard and install it. I'd also like to be able to give him a solid list of tools he'd need as well. He does a lot of auto work but not on Hyundai's (yet). Keep up the excellent work guys!
Re: Auto to 5-speed swap on my 97 Tiburon COMPLETED!!!!!
i think it would be way easier to just rewire it... i only had to rewire like 4 wires and that's it... the inside wires for the tcm just get tucked away and the wires from the tranaxle range switch get rewired... 2 for the reverse and 2 for the starter...

Re: Auto to 5-speed swap on my 97 Tiburon COMPLETED!!!!!
Nobody really needs to switch up the harness. It's way too much work. You can do it, dont get me wrong, but just too much work to get your car... stock. Its not just the pannels up front, you literally need to dismantle your car, that is if you switch gens. I guess it'd be easier than hell if you just stayed with the same year and dont have a REV A then it's more or less a solid weekend job.
