wow this thread started out so good too... :dead: lets see if we can stay on topic for a while ok???

the LC series 1.6 alphas are the alpha III (the MAP based ones ), which is what i have and i will give what info i know that might be relevant...

the LC series transmissions are useable on beta motors and vice versa. the differential outputs on the tranny are the same so no axle changes in this case and i havent taken one apart yet but i am very confident the differentials are the same. (for LSD's)

the 1.8 beta transmissions have a higher 4th and 5th gear ratio (more torque) than the 2.0 ones do.

the 1.6 LC alpha transmissions have a very high 1st gear and 2nd is higher too. 3rd and 4th are close to beta specs, but even though the final gear on alpha is higher, 5th gear is way lower (economy opposed to spoprt gearing) and even allows for a higher top speed.

if you do use an alpha transmission though you will need a clutch for it. the betas are pull type clutches and alphas are push type clutches.

flywheel in alpha III and the betas are all same clutch pattern and overall flywheel size, but the alpha has a 5-bolt crank mount and beta has a 6 bolt pattern. hence no problem with me putting a beta clutch on my alpha tranny to match the 1.8 transmission.

beta I and II have a smaller overall flywheel than the newer ones.

I’ve also seen that X3 is used for some Excel’s and Accent’s, so what does X3 really refer to?

Hi. I have a Hyundai Elantra J2 GLS 96. My engine is a 1,6 litre with 120 bhp. Is that a mitsubitshi engine and can i swap it with a 2.0 litre mitsu engine?

Hi Owemk!.......yes, your car has a Mitsu. engine, so your proposed 2-litre Mitsu. transplant would be relatively straightforward!.
Cheers,
Nick.
