Default Does the 99 Elantra and the 99 Accent share the same engine?

I'm going to swap out my engine with a 1997-1999 Tiburon engine. One of my friends told me that someone he knew put a Mistubishi-based Elantras (92-95) 4g63t engine into his 90-99(don’t remember what year it was exactly though). So I'm wondering if it would be possible to put a 4g63t engine in my car. I know I can fit a Tiburon engine in my 99 with little modifications, but it would be nice if I had a choice between two different engines.

As for the title of the thread, no the 99 Elantra and 99 Accent do not share the same engine.

The 4g motor can be swapped into an Excel from, say, 90-94, mainly because the Excel was based on the Mitsu Mirage. The Accent, however, uses a Hyundai-designed and built motor called the Alpha.

The Tiburon and the Elantra use the Beta motor, and those are fairly easily swappable into the Accent.

Theoretically, you could swap a 4g motor into your Accent, but that would require a lot of work and money. A beta swap is much more straightforward, and much more cost effective. Plus, if you want, the Beta can be turboed, as it is a strong motor and can take a decent amount of boost without upgrading the internals.

In short, go with the Tiburon engine.
