Hello. I have a 1995 Elantra 1.6 GLS 5 speed manual. It was one of the last models of the first gen (when we took delivery of it, the 2nd gen ones were just being unloaded from freight trucks). So I know it's possible to swap the stock engine with a 4g63t.
I have some questions:
1.- Is there a "grocery list" of the parts needed for the swap (engine, ECU, wiring, Tranny)? I've seen other posts in these forums, but would like to have an itemized one (maybe it would help other people, too). I'm not interested into nitrous, changing pistons, head, cams, etc.
2.- I know the 4g63t comes on different types (1G eclipse, 6-bolt, 7-bolt, etc). Which one is better for my car? What problems would I face with each type?
3.- Besides the turbo engine, are other swap alternatives? (2.0 16v, 2.4 16v).
The idea for the swap came because the engine has 100.000 km and the time to change the timing belt is approaching (and also the tune-up), and in my country it costs U$400 to change it. Here we can find used engines (japanese used ones) for less. With the parts list I can figure how much the bill will be.
It's not so much of how much I will have to spend as how much I will receive. I know it's cheaper to retain my engine, but if I can have more horsepower... Besides, in the family we like the car very much.
Anyway, thanks.

Besides the turbo swap, I'm considering a Mitsubishi 4G92, which is found in the JDM Cyborg Type R (175hp). It's also 1.6L, I'm guessing besides controlling the variable manifold and camshafts, it should drop right in. Put the Hyundai valvecover back on and NOBODY would know what's lurking. 8D
