hello, i posted in the turbo forum that I am planning to go turbo next year, and now I also have an idea of buying the same engine i have in my car, 1.6 liter DOHC with automatic. and then build up the engine I buy with turbo and other parts while its hanging in my garage, so that way I can still drive my car around, because its the only car i have. and I was wondering about how much would it cost for a DOHC 1.6 liter engine with automatic? with 20,000 or less miles, I was hoping not much, theres one on Ebay right now for 75$, but the guy doesnt say if its blown or anything. thanks in advance. :rambo:

I picked up a 1.5sohc from my local wreckers for $550AUD as a "drive in"
basically if the car is in condition to be driven into the wreckers, or mechanically sound, it fits into this category.
Now it gets to sit on the shelf while I save to rebuild the internals to suit my turbo project.
If you're going to turbo the motor, you would be rebuilding the engine anyway.
I would recommend getting a rebuild kit for the engine, minus pistons/rings, and fitting this as your first step. Just to ensure your engine is mechanically sound before screwing on the turbo.
What does it matter if the engine is blown or how many miles are on it? If you are building it, then build it. If you are just bolting a turbo kit on then just bolt it on your current engine.
Lose the automatic tranny or spend spend several thousand dollars and having level 10 beef it up so it can handle the power of a turbo engine.

im not planning to be some full out drag type car, and I plan to beef up the tranny a bit too, but i wanted a running engine with not too many miles so that way the block and head is still in good condition. and if i could pick up an engine for not too much this coming x-mas, i could start saving and picking up pieces by end of next summer. and about my tranny again, i have an automatic, i used to have a 1990 Honda Prelude Si with manual, and ive driven my step mom's (now in the junkyard from an accident) 1997 mazda protege with a manual, and my mom's 1995 mustang, so i know how to drive a manual, oh sinse you noted swapping tranny's about how much would it cost to convert to a manual? and are there any modifications that need to be made to the chasis?

the reason why i want to get a 2nd engine and build the 2nd engine up is because i dont have much extra moola and if i got the 2nd engine i could still go to work and school, and then like skierd said, if i blow up the turbo engine i could just swap my original engine back in and sssshwing i can still drive, and i also just thought of while the turbo engine is in my car, i could start building my original engine for a high power N/A car, or go with suicidal Horse power. also i am planning on doing some custom fab stuff to the 2nd engine, like making my own little "baffles" in the oil pan for cornering purposes, im sure skierd knows what they are for. as well as all autocrossers

Less then beefing up the automatic tranny

If that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to bolt the kit on your current engine and if you blow it, THEN buy another stock engine?
If it is a matter of bolting a kit on another engine, swapping it in then building up your current stock engine, then you are still double working yourself. Bolt the kit on your stock engine, then buy another engine (no matter how many miles are on it) and build it up.
If you want to bolt a turbo on an engine out of the car anyways then you might as well build it up while it is out before you swap it in. It just doesn't make any sense to swap a basically bone stock engine for the same bone stock engine but with a turbo bolted on.
Are you following?

the 2nd engine i am gonna get from a wrecked accent is going to built up. Im going to strip it down and put new rods, pistons etc. in it and do some head work, but the reason why i want to get a 2nd engine is because i have to work to pay for all of this, and it'll take like 2 or 3 months to get, pay for and install all the parts. and then i thought when i have the 2nd turbo engine in my car, and my original engine sitting in my garage i could spend some money and time and build it up for a nice highER power N/A engine. im not just bolting on a turbo system to the 2nd engine, i would build up the engine too, and with the miles situation, it'll just make me feal alittle more confident with an engine with less mileage, as like the block and head shape. but thanks for the help. :rambo:
