Default weird reverse prob

its weird, everytime i put my car on reverse, the engine starts to stumble pretty bad, like the ignition timing got all fuged up. Kinda sounds like its only running on 3cyl. But as soon as i take it out of reverse it goes away. Anybody have any ideas:??:

yea probably your reverse indicator light switch is shorting out on something. 99 mini had a problem with his broke right off (x3) but i would say yours is shorting out unplug the sensor and tryit. Trace it down looking for cuts and stuff good luck.

does the engine stumble only if you're actually backing up?

what happens if you sit in the car, with your foot on the clutch, shift lever in reverse, and you rev the engine? does the engine stumble?

is it possible the shift lever, shift cables or shift linkage on the tranny are touching one of these components, when it's in reverse:

maybe park the car, put it in reverse, and look around to see if anything's making contact.

well i figured it out, and it turned out to be something stupid. One of the ignition wires got caught in the shift linkage everytime i put it in reverse:dead:
