Default Ok since I"m gonna be invading this forum too...

ANy of you who keep up with the accent forums know I've been trolling pretty hard lately. I've been putting alot of money into my '01 lately and just had a redirection of thought.

I'm going to be doing a beta swap. The money is already building for the project but the information is lacking. There is ALOT of great info on here and I've been soaking up as much as I can but I"m a total detail junky when it comes to learning new things, and engines are new things to me. I understand the basic concepts of them and know a bit about old american muscle engines but this is a new field for me.

some basic questions i have that I havnt been able to find definitive answers to are..

1. I've seen 00 and earlier models with documented swaps, are there any differences between the 00 and the 01 base model accent? (2 door hatch, 1.5 SOHC)

2. I've looked for a documented Power Steering mod for the swap and havnt found one, does anyone have some info or can link me a thread I'm obviously missing?

3. This is some real 101 crap here. I don't really understand Turbochargers VS Superchargers and applying Nos to either types, I dont expect a class on that but all the places I've looked for some basics on those things has been entirely over my head, anyone?

4. There will be a buttload more like tire types, fuel additives good or bad, gear ratio questions and a plethora of others. I'm searching for stuff but like I said I"m a total detail junky and wanna know every little bit I can.

A little overview of my "goal" Me and some of my friends go to a legal dragstrip once a week here that runs 1/8th mile runs. I want to get my accent down to an 8sec flat. I figure the 2.0 beta would be a good candidate to make this happen, I know its gonna be a bunch of work and some people will prolly say its not possible but I'm gonna give it eveything I can. 8 is my goal if I can do better then hell yeah but there has never since we started going to this track been a single accent on the line, I gotta represent!

the swap is surprisingly easy to do in(00-03) your car. (See stickies on top of forum). All you need is a 1.6L accent harness/ecm, beta II eninge/tranny, use your stock accent axles, and switch out a couple of sensors (from stock 1.5L), use a combo of accent-beta mounts and turn it on You should get a good piggyback also (apex i, or something like that).as for the powersteering, all you have to do is fabricate a bracket to hold the pump, and modify some of the powersteering lines. Also not that hard either, im working on one right now for mine

peace:smoking:

well from reading I thought the betaI was a better candidate. Are you saying that it would be easier to go with a betaII ?

I'm wanting the most power I can get in this little beast but I am doing all the labor myself (with a few extra hands that have more knowledge than me, one is a motor genius).

For my goal woudl I be better off going Beta/BetaII and turbo, or supercharged or what?. I dunno hardly anything about turbo or super and only a little about Nos. I cant wait to learn more though

the beta II is a better candidate because it is easier. You HAVE to use the accent ecm for this though, eventually requiering a piggiback fuel managment (especially when you mod it.)

if you want to use the betas ecm, you will have to use a beta I MAF based motor. This will requier you to do massive rewiring :dead:

You can use the stock axles, but i do not know how well they will hold up against forced induction.

what is your 1/4 mile goal? it is possible to make the accent pretty fast on an NA beta.

and I would go with a supercharger, they both pretty much acheive the same power gains, and ive heard it works really good with the beta.

Turbos work better with the Beta and you can generally get better power gains with them too.

thats what I've heard Auto and thanks

but what I'm needing is the basics on turbo/super, and can NOS safely be applied to either setup?.

Bizzare,

If I go betaII with this I need the eingine/tranny from the donor, I need to find a 1.6l Accent ECM/Harness, and gank the mounts from the donor?.

Am I off or does that stickie above document a betaI transplant? are there any major differences with the install?

is there anywhere I can look to read up on turbos/superchargers? I dont want you guys to have to spill the basic crap like how they work and what not. I'm starting from a beginner up on this, I dont even know what questions are stupid like.. doe shaving a turbo mean you dont have a header, blah blah. See I really dont know much! Just trying to learn everything I can.

Ok, you want to do a beta swap. What you need depends on a few things:
What motor do you have now? If you have the 1.6L, go with a betaII. If you have the 1.5L, go with the BetaI. Though the newer 1.5L SOHC has the same style ecm as the 1.6 accent, it also still has a MAF sensor, meaning it should be somewhat easier to wire. The 1.6L swap should be easier with a beta2 motor, since wiring will be less, but till someone goes the route of keeping the accent ecm we wont know.

If you have an automatic now, i'd suggest getting a manual tranny and all the necessary parts when you swap. Automatics are crap, esp hyundai auto's.

The basic turbo crap should be stickied in the Forced Induction forum...

I looked at total gains and what not for the price tag. I'm going to pass on the swap in the hyundai. I want to drag, my bud let me run his 02 collectors edition Trans Am at the track and I"m now officially addicted. Because of the set up I plan on doing I'm skipping the accents engine boost and just going to dress her up like the pretty lady she is. I got my racing buckets in and am going to do the rest of the dress up and maybe mod the engine a little. I'm also picking up a 57 chevy stepside and a 350 block next weekend to start project car #2 Thanks for all the info but I'm skipping performance and going sight and sound.

(This is NOT a bash on the hyundais or the 4banger revolution, I love em both!)
