Ok its late and I'm real tired but ive been looking over the gear ratios in the different trannys and from what it looks like the J2 Elantra has the longest gears.
Now I have an LC2 Accent. I want to keep the Alpha motor and swap in a new tranny (for the larger gears). I want all your opinions on which tranny to use as well as which trannies would swap. thanks.
My main goal is to be able to cruise on freeway (65-70 mph) at 2,500 rpm instead of the lousy 3k rpm that I have with the alpha tranny. I dont care about going 140 mph or whatever else i just want to have a normal cruise spped at a lower rpm and I figure d having longer gears (3rd-5th) could give me that.

I think the XD trans would be the best idea, IMO. The sub frame is very similar (I believe the j2 was still using a crossmember) . The mounts need a little modding, but nothing a good grinder/drill can't handle. Also I have heard the XD/GK syncros are a little better. In my area they are running about 250.
That or you could get rims/tires with a bigger overall diameter. Speedo might not be right.

Now Ive highlighted in bold both the GK Tib and XD Elantra gear ratios. both are the same but the thing I'm confused over is what do the numbers mean? Is the larger number a shorter or longer gear?
Example: the GK 5th gear is: 0.837 and the LC2 is: 0.825 now obviousely I'm going to assume the GKhas the longer 5th BUT the 1st gear is: 3.462 and the LC2 is: 3.615 is that telling me that the GK 1st gear is SHORTER? I dont want a shorter first gear... I want ALL my gears longer.

smaller number is a longer gear or a "higher" one.
Yes, LCs are geared really low and they hafta shift sooner.
Think of it this way: If I tib puts out more power than an accent, they would gear it higher to prevent loss of traction on start AND accents would need a bigger multiplier to get going since they make less power.
