Josh, I hope you are aware you need to change out the wiring harness and ECU, since the 1.5 motor is MAF based and the early beta 2s are map based. The 04+ beta 2's have the CVVT unit, which that is a all different animal.
My best advise is to get a beta 2 trans as well as the starter. The bell housing and 1.5 block are different (slightly) than the 1.6 which makes parts interchange a little harder.
Its not that bad Josh, I did it. I had a 1.5l. I used the beta from a 2001 elantra and an ecm from a 2001 manual 1.6l. Yes as Drerob said, you will have to grind the beta block for the 1.5tranny to fit and also for the slave cylinder. Using your current tranny and an alpha ecm makes the swap alot eaiser.

Thanks RTP. I ordered my ecu from a 2002 1.6L LC, which should be here by weeks end. I have my motor mount that I bought from the betaswap shop. All I have for grinding is a Dremel tool, hope that will cut it. How much are we talking about grinding off? Do you think it would be possible for you to take some pix of the areas that you grinded?
I don’t have access to a welder, so I hope I will not need anything else welded other than the exhaust.

A Dremel is a great tool but no matter what you try it is not an acceptable grinder. I learned this from experience. A 2 day grinding job with the Dremel is a 2 minute grinding job with the grinder.
Ill take some pics for you man. I have my engine pulled right now anyway.
Right on dude...

Are you guys using the Hi-pressure hose from the elantra for the PS? Or no PS?

you will need the 1.6L power steering resovior and tubes and the one line that runs from the rack and pinion to the power steering pump and the power steering pump itself, the 1.5 will not fit the beta as it's in a different spot but the 1.6 is located in the same spot as the beta and will bolt up i believe. I am using the said parts above from the 02 elantra that the motor/trans came out of.

I think i might hold off on the PS for right now. Im running out of cash for the project. I just need to get the car back on the road. I think i can live with out PS.
I have a question about emissions! It should be able to pass emissoins with the 1.6L ecu, right?
