With 600 miles of total range, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid is a perfect road-trip ready mid-sized sedan.

Building on the already solid 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, this plug-in features more of everything, that adds up to the elusive 600 mile mark. Very few cars can boast that kind of range, not the Volt, not the Prius, and certainly no Tesla.

This is all possible thanks to a battery that’s five times bigger than it was in the regular hybrid, and an electric motor that is 32 percent more powerful. That means the car can hit higher speeds without needing to enable the internal combustion engine, and can stay in a pure electric driving mode for longer periods of time. Electric range is rated at 27 miles, and charging this family sedan takes under nine hours using a standard 120-volt plug and under three hours using a 240-volt plug.

When the big electric battery is drained, the car acts like a normal hybrid vehicle, and one that’s capable of getting 40 mpg. There are a few drive modes that help you get more out of the powertrain, trading efficiency for responsiveness. On the road, the car is quiet and uses a smooth six-speed automatic transmission.

All the details are in the video above, so check it out and be sure to read our full review of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid.
