Default Hyundai Unveils New Santa Fe

Hyundai Unveils new Santa Fe

Date Posted 11-28-2005

SEOUL — The new, larger Hyundai Santa Fe SUV has made its home-market debut. The new model widens the gap between it and Hyundai's smaller Tucson — and makes room for seven passengers.

"The new Santa Fe will be exported to Europe next month and will be produced in the Alabama plant in the first half of next year," Hyundai Motor chairman Chung Mong-koo told reporters at the launch ceremony. Between now and then, the new Santa Fe will be displayed at Detroit's auto show in January and Geneva's in March. Hyundai hopes to sell 210,000 Santa Fes next year, including 150,000 units in exports.

The new Santa Fe's sleek lines are quite different from the bulbous look of the outgoing version. And the new model is armed with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) diesel engine, 153 horsepower, and a five-speed automatic transmission.

What this means to you: Three rows of seats: good. A curvier, more attractive Santa Fe: great.
