Default Need protection!

Okay, I have a small problem. On a tiny section of my door, some clear coat has broken off and the surrounding coat is slowly flaking away. There's still paint underneath, but I want to protect it and prevent anymore clear coat from flaking off. If I won't have the money for any kind of major repaint job until after college, so I was wondering what else I could do. I was thinking about just spraying the area with some store bought clear coat, but I wanted to know if there was anything less messy. Any type of clear vinyl? Thanks!

Oh yeah, I forgot...Winter has arrived in Wisconsin, and the salt has hit the road! It seems to be aiding in the deterioration. I'm gonna wash it today, but I really need something to protect my baby.

Since you said the winter & salt are already in your area do this asap !!
Either to go a local auto parts store and buy a small touch-up paint bottle that matches your color and duh touch-up the spot lol.
Or...this sounds funny but get a small bottle of clear nail polish, your mom or is you have a sister they should have this already. And just paint up the paint chip. It'll protect the spot.

okay, I've used some clear coat on it. It looks pretty good, you can hardly tell that it's not the stock clear coat. I sprayed it on very carefully and it blends right in. I touched up two spots and am pretty satisfied. Now I can make my weekend journey across Wisconsin and be less fearful of road salt and the elements. I'm still going to see about some clear sticky vinyl, just incase it doesn't hold, but it should.

I know what you mean about road salt, I live in Two Rivers, Tues night we got dumped on with 4 to 7 inches of snow, and my car is covered in salt still having my AVS ES100's on didn't help traction much either
