Default Anyone care to outline the difference between bulbs?

Alright, would anyone like to explain the difference between regular bulbs, imitation/cheap HIDs and real HIDs? So far as I can tell, imitation HIDs ie Xenon bulbs and such, are brighter or just whiter than regular halogens. Real HIDs need special sh!t done for them to fit/work. Is this right? And how much brighter are imitations than normal bulbs, and how much brighter are real HIDs than imitations? Cause $50 for imitations sounds better than $400 for real ones.

Go for the real HID'd. They look so sweet during the day with their purplish glow, and at night, they really are that much brighter. I think the $400.00 would be well worth it, cause I know in our stock tibby's, our headlights suck a$$. If u wanna go the cheap way, yes xenon bulbs are brighter then stock.... but not that much. And u can get them cheaper then $50.00. Look on ebay.. u might get em for around$25.00

I think if you are going for the imitation bulbs it depends on if you want bright, or blue. I had some Sylvania Silver Star bulbs in my last car. They looked solid white and were as bright as any halogen bulb you will ever see. Normal halogen bulbs looked very yellow next to the Silver Stars. They cost me about $20 a bulb at Autozone.

I'm not sure about the blue. I think I want to go with more of a blue in my new Tiburon. I was thinking about the Sylvalia Cool Blues because I've had such a good experience with that brand. It seems like some of the cheaper ones you see are actually just regular bulbs with some blue tint over them, and they end up looking more purple than blue at night.

don't waste your money. cheap bulbs = poorer lighting. i paid 80 bucks for my piaa platinum ultra white's 3 years ago and they are still going strong, and the light is exceptional. my friend went through about 4 or 5 sets of those gay ass blue headligths before he realized how cheap they were.

By imitation I mean, not a 400-500 setup. The real HIDs have to have a special installation done right? I'm looking for brighter, bluish/white bulbs that I can just put in like any other halogen bulbs.

I agree with Rudy. I bought the cheap, crappy "Cool Blue" bulbs, and within 5 months had to replace them. I wasted $18 per bulb. Go PIAA if you can. The H7 (2k Tib) aren't available in the U.S. I was told, but look for them somewhere, maybe EBay or www.PIAA.com .
Rudy - $80 per bulb or a pair? What bulb #?

I have 6000k HIDs on my 2003 Tiburon for the lowbeams (H7 bulbs) and soon to be getting the 6000k HIDs for my 9006 foglights. World of difference. Imitation "Xenon" (which are only tinted bulbs, not true Xenon in any way whatsoever) are just that, imitation. You get what you pay for.
