Default Help with painting interior

I own a 2001 accent gs and i'm considering doing some extensive interior painting. I've already painted everything once however I'm looking for tips on how to sand down the dash and other textured plastic surfaces to get that fiberglass look before repainting it again. I would just like to know if anyone else has attempted this and how they went about it. I don't need to know much about the painting aspect as I have already done a lot of that I would just like some advice on the preperation aspect. Thanks for the help.

you need to use a finer grit sandpaper. start low then move up to smooth it out. like a 1000+ grit for the final process. just paint, sand, paint, sand, paint until you get the final look you want.

Alright, can I use a power sander of some sort or would it be wise to do it all by hand? Thanks for the help so far btw.

be careful using any type of sand blaster to take off the texture or existing paint. I tried that once and it marred my surfaces pretty bad i had to do a lot of filling and priming and then wetsanding to fix all of the blemishes. i have heard that the texture on some dashes is actually like a vynil thatyou can peel off if you have enough patience however i am not sure what the case is in your situation. maybe someone else with more thurough knowedge of your car can help you out more. but whatever you do remember to be patient and do a good job on it

Use a d.a. or something of the sorts, on low power with 80 grit paper. This will take most of the textur away. Then you'll prime 3 to 4 coats, then sand with 400 grit. prime again if you need to. From there you can prime. Now for the dash, you should beable to peal all of the plether off the dash leaving the foam under it in place, then mix up somefiber glass resin and poor over the foam and brush it around ( make sure you over every thing) Now get a soft block and 80 grit and sand this smoth. Next take 3 to 4 sheets of fiberglass and laythis over the dash ( this will give you a hard surface and keep it from breaking ) sand with 80 once again. Then prime and sand ith 400 and your ready to paint. You might get a better I deai of what Im talking about buy going to this web site http://www.alpine-usa.com/html/D2_n_1_n_n.html. check out the 2003 civic si real good photos.
