Default Are fiberglass hoods ok?

I hijacked importsharks hood post, so i want to start a different one. I could have swore that people weren't fond of fiberglass hoods. If this is true why is that? I want a vented hood, but I am painting it regardless, so I don't care if it has the carbon fiber look, I just don't want to have any problems with it. Let me know what you guys think. thanks:smoking:

the only thing i heard about fiberglass is that you don't wanna like slam the hood. or drop it really high. just set it down then push it shut.. its really just to be safe.. doesn't mean if u accidently slam it one time itll break but it would be better to lightly close it.. once its closed the strength should be just as good as CF unless ur tryin to knock over walls.

i would have gotten an FG hood but i wanted the look :rambo: just doin' things to be unique.

no hard feelings for jackin' my thread jk man :

asked before in the hijacked thread... chopper guns glassfibre...

The reason It is no good in such an area...Glass Fibre takes it's strength from both the resin and the glass fibres.. If the fibres are torn up and unevenly thrown into the resin like the gun does, you wind up relying more more on the resin than the glass. Resin is MUCH more rigid than the glas.. too much so and it will make areas that are fragile and prone to cracking.

Laying a mat of glass into the resin means all the glass fibres are connected and unbroken, the voids in the resin are evenly filled, and the overall condition of the glassfibre combination is smooth and even from one side to another.

For speaker inclorures, a chopper gone is fine.. in an area like the LARGE hood the tib has... it leaves too many weakened areas that just beg to crack. There is a reason carbonfibre is laid in one continous sheet... it's done for strength
