Hi, I was just wondering what you guys think would be better to have for undercar lighting? Neon or LED? I heard that some LED's can change upto 7 different colours and can play different patterns along with flashing to the beat of music you play... I think these LED's would have far more uses than neons for undercar use but maybe there were some downfalls i dont see that others might, like how durable LED's would be compared to neons or how waterproof they are.... Can anyone tell me what they think?

they crack easily, especially if you buy cheaper ones
if you've got the money for LED's, go for it. especially if you want all the flashy-multicolored effects 8D
the only downfall of LEDs, I believe... is that they only point in a certain direction. neons glow all around, and would light the ground, and the grille between your headlights as well... where as the LEDs would probably only get the ground, if that's where you point them
i'm not 100% positive on this part though
anyways... i hope that helped.. i'm sure you'll get some more answers semi-soon
yeah, leds send their light at a certain angle. with neons, you will get the affect that your car is on a cloud. with leds, it will seem like there are just big ass rows of light a foot or so wide around your car.
I've got the the led ones, the one that has the 7 different colors, and different patterns and all that jive. I am very satisfied with it. The only thing that I don't like, is ths controller for the leds. Its a monster for what it does, Its about 6"x4"x1"....so I can't find a good place to put this thing....but otherwise its cool. By the way if anyone has got suggestions on where to put it, post it up
What paterns do LED's do exactly? i only read in their details that they can fade (what's that?), flash with music and scan (what's that look like?)... what else can they do? So LED's don't emit ANY light to any other direction other than the direction they are facing? So does that mean not even the light bouncing off the ground would light up the bottom of the car?

all leds have a certain emitting angle. most are about 30 degrees or so. so use some trig real fast, knowing your car is about 7 inches off the ground. cut the angle in half to find the radius.
tan15= x/7
x=1.8
so the circle on the ground will be about 4 inches wide. they could use more leds, or a wider dispersing led to make it bigger though.
i can find sites that sell them (2 of them) but they dont show animations of the patterns they make, they just have pics of the different colours of glows under the car... hey, do 7 colour LED's actually have 7 LED's? one for each colour?

LED tubes contain a BUNCH of little leds. i know they make tri-colored LEDS, but i dont think they would use those in multicolored tubes. id say its just a bunch of diferent colored leds huddled together.
i never could figure out why people wanted 3768756238746 different colors. i know some people are against lightshows and think theyre ricy, but i recon they can be pulled off in style. if you have the inside and the outside of he car in one single color that doesnt flicker or bounce or change or whatnots. and lights that are really strong and bright on the ground that really give you the nice hovering effect. therefor i say go with some quality neon tubes. most come in protective housing these days anyway, so theyre not as fragile. oh yeah. please do a color that complements the colorscheme of your car. good luck with that 8D
