Default My Most Toughest Challenge

Well....a good friend of mine just got a
nice loan and he wants Gullwing Doors on his car. We were talking about it last week, and he said he wants them done. I didn't actually think he would go through with getting a loan and have me do it. It's a 91 Civic that has a bunch of engine mods and the interior is pretty much all done up as well. It just needs paint and a few other small custom things. So, he wants ME to do this mod on his car for him.

Considering I have only done this mod twice before and it was with employees from a professional shop to help me out with it...I have to wonder if I'll be able to do this on my own. I have no fear about doing it, and I'm sure I can have it done with the help of a few friends....but since I'll be doing a majority of the work..it's going to take me at least 3-4 weeks to finish this..compared to where a shop would only have the car for about 2 weeks. I also would have to rent some special tools for the job. He said he would pay for everything that I need and he will also compensate me generously for doing the work. He also wants me to shave all emblems, and his rear lights. He wants small Honda "H"'s cut into the rear bumper and to be used as his brake/turn signal lights. Those things will be very very easy for me to do. And last, he also wants a custom Dupont Maroon with red microflake paint job. Also, not a problem. I'm just wondering if I should take a chance on his doors. I would feel really bad if for some reason they didn't come out the way they should.

What do you guys think I should do? I've been thinking all night about what I should do and I'm cluelss on it.

If you have been there before then it really shouldn't be too much of an issue. The only thing that I would do is set down with the car and get all the supplies you think you will need so that way you don't get side tracked with going and getting pieces that you need.

I don't know how many people read Euro Lowrider, but a couple months back there was an 5 door excel on the cover with the front and rear doors lambo style, well i know Alan he is from Tucson and I see him like every Sat night out on speedway. The name of the car is Hyundaighini. Check it out it is a tight car with a ton of mods but the doors really set it off.

Here is a pic of the Car on the cover of Euro Lowrider.

Here is a little Clearer pic of the car, the model is Tatiana,Alan's Girlfriend.

Wow Alan's a lucky guy
Low, I'm sure you could do it but if you're not totally comfortable with it let you're friend know and he can decide if he wants you to take a chance on it.

Gullwing doors open from the bottom (hinged at the roof of the car) kinda like looks like wing when they're open, hence the name "Gullwing " doors.

I think you'll be able to get it 2KLo, you da man .

Just let him know up front how you think it'll come out. That way if it does come out wrong, then he knew all along.

Just think about Delorians (the car from Back To The Future).

Thanx everyone. I think what I'm gonna do is skip the door modification. I know I can do it, but I would be ALOT more comfortable with the help of some of my old aquantances at the Hod Rod shop I used to work for. But I am going to do all the other mods for him (custom paint, shaving the rear lights, and emblems, installing custom lights, etc..) I just don't want to take that small chance and mess anything up. If that happens, then his car is pretty much worth squat.
